Textfold

Help

Everything you need to get comfortable in Textfold, from first launch to power features.

Getting started

Textfold is a native macOS document app, so it works the way your Mac already does.

Encodings & line endings

The status bar at the bottom of every window shows the document's current text encoding and line-ending style at a glance.

Encodings

Textfold detects a file's encoding when it opens — UTF-8, UTF-16, Shift-JIS, GB, Big5, Latin, and more — and can convert between them. CJK text and right-to-left scripts (Arabic, Hebrew) with mixed-direction BiDi content are handled correctly out of the box.

Line endings

Files arrive with Unix (LF), Windows (CRLF), or classic Mac (CR) line endings; Textfold detects which on open and shows it in the status bar. You can convert a document from one style to another — handy when a file needs to round-trip with Windows tools.

Themes

Choose your look in Settings → General → Theme:

A full theme gallery and theme editor are part of Textfold Pro, arriving across the 1.x releases.

Find & replace

Press ⌘F to open the find bar. Type to search the current document; matches highlight as you type. Switch to replace mode to substitute one match at a time or all at once.

The find bar supports full regular expressions (ICU syntax), so patterns like ^TODO:.*$ or capture-group replacements work as you'd expect. Prefer plain text? Leave regex off and search literally.

Find in Files PRO — searching and replacing across a whole folder or project — is a Pro feature, arriving across the 1.x releases.

Keyboard shortcuts

ShortcutAction

About Pro features

Pro features — Find in Files, column/block editing, snippets and macros, split editing and minimap, named sessions, the folder sidebar, the theme gallery and editor, custom syntax definitions, bookmarks, and the shortcut mapper — stay visible in the menus with a PRO badge so you can always see what's there. The full Pro set is arriving across the 1.x releases.

Selecting a Pro feature shows what it does and offers the unlock: a single $19.99 one-time purchase — no subscription — that works on all Macs signed in to your Apple ID. The free tier is complete and stays complete forever.
